A FAIRYTALE-LIKE SOCIAL DRAMA ABOUT TWO SIBLINGS ON AN ODYSSEY

Life is like a roller-coaster ride for 15-year-old Billie and her younger brother Nico. Nothing gives them security. Of course, their father loves them but when he drinks too much, he is unpredictable. Their mother is even less reliable. But Billie and Nico do not give up their dream of a beautiful youth. They run away with the neighbor Malik, experience adventures and make friends, until reality catches up with them again. In grainy black and white, occasionally interrupted by color sequences and shot with many close-ups, US independent director Alexandre Rockwell tells the story of two siblings who must defy a life of poverty. They draw hope from the power of love and poetry.
