JANO AND SHIRO

Netherlands 2020. Director: Eefje Blanevoort, Els van Driel. 30 Min.

JANO AND SHIRO ARE INSEPARABLE. IN THE DUTCH ASYLUM SYSTEM, THEY ARE SUDDENLY WORLDS APART.

The inseparable brothers Shiro and Jano decide together to make an arduous escape from Syria to Europe. They are separated, endure terrible experiences, and find their way back together — their cell phone camera is always with them. Once they arrive in the Netherlands, the paradise they had hoped for looks different than expected: Shiro (15) finds support as a minor. He is allowed to learn the language, make friends and is integrated. The adult Jano (18) has to go to a reception center for adults, where he has to wait without the possibility of work. After one and a half years, the decision of the immigration authorities finally arrives.
