Paper Spiders. USA 2020. Director: Inon Shampanier. Screenplay: Inon Shampanier, Natalie Shampanier. 109 Min. Feature film. OV w/Eng. sub and Ger. voice-over Suitable from age 12. Recommended from age 15.
A BEAUTIFULLY TRAGIC STORY ABOUT GROWING UP IN THE SHADOW OF A MENTAL ILLNESS
The man from the house next door is dangerous. He throws stones, sneaks around the house at night and climbs onto his neighbors’ roof. These claims made by Dawn however are fictitious. When Melanie realises that her mother Dawn is increasingly suffering from paranoid delusions, her world comes crashing down. She wanted to move out and live her dream of going to college. But how can the 17-year-old help her mother without giving up on all her dreams? PAPER SPIDERS shines with outstanding actresses who embody Melanie’s fears for the future and Dawn’s mental illness in a touching way.
